ENGL 4820 - African American Literature to 1920 3 Credits (3 Contact Hours) Critical examination of the development of the African American literary tradition from the Colonial Period to the Harlem Renaissance. Considers the historical and cultural contexts of a variety of texts, themes and theories. Preq: ENGL 2020 or ENGL 2120 or ENGL 2130 or ENGL 2140 or ENGL 2150 or ENGL 2160 .
