EDSC 3100 - Community and Well-Being in Secondary Classroom Environments

3 Credits (3 Contact Hours)
Explores and examines theoretical and practical understandings of secondary classroom communities across four content areas (English, social studies, science, mathematics). This course focuses on ways to co-construct and maintain student-centered learning communities that promote belonging, safety, flexibility, organization, positive teacher/learner identities, and collaboration. Prospective teachers specifically analyze and articulate their role in processes of establishing and sustaining a vibrant classroom learning community characterized for all students by affirmation, belonging, generativity, and consistently high behavioral and academic expectations. Preq: Mathematics Teaching, Middle Level Education, Science Teaching, or Secondary Education major.
