Program Requirements

The Master of Education degree in Administration and Supervision prepares individuals as elementary or secondary school administrators or supervisors. The program provides both a theoretical and fieldbased foundation in educational leadership with a focus on leading instructional improvement for the benefit of all P-12 students. The program is approved by ELCC.

Admission Requirements

For admission, individuals must have a baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited institution and a minimum of one year of teaching experience. A complete application package should include (1) on-line application, (2) unofficial transcripts from previous institutions (cumulative minimum undergraduate grade-point average of 2.70 on the last 60 hours), (3) two recommendations-one from immediate prior supervisor, (4) current résumé, (5) copy of teaching and/or administration certificate and (6) Competitive GRE score report of verbal, quantitative and writing assessments. (Acceptable GRE scores are considered holistically with the student’s background and potential success in graduate school.)

Applicants whose native language is not English must also submit TOEFL, IELTS or PTE scores.

If requested by the program coordinator, an interview may be required prior to an admission decision.

Prospective students are encouraged to apply two months prior to the beginning of the term in which they wish to enroll.

Students who anticipate applying to a degree program may not transfer more than 12 credit hours as a nondegree student or from another institution without program coordinator approval. Nondegree students should consult an advisor before enrolling in any course.

Course Requirements

This program incorporates the academic requirements for certification as a principal and supervisor in South Carolina. Thirty-six hours of graduate credit are required.
