Description

Applied behavior analysis is a well developed discipline focused on helping individuals using foundational principles of learning and behavior. Professionals in the field of applied behavior analysis use assessment of environmental factors to analyze behavioral needs and develop interventions to support successful participation in a variety of diverse settings. Assessment methods include direct observations, rating scales, record/medical reviews, interviews, and preferences assessments. Intervention techniques include direct instruction of behavioral and social skills, modify antecedent conditions to occasion desired behavior, and provide adjustments to environmental contingencies to increase, maintain, diminish or extinguish behaviors.

Applied behavior analysis has been used to improved the lives of individuals with and without disabilities, including individuals with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and traumatic brain injury. Applied behavior analysis therapy is an evidence-based practice for improving outcomes for these individuals and is therefore a highly sought after service by doctors, parents and educators. Trained professionals with the skill sets to provide these services are in demand.
