Program Description
The Master of Engineering is a special degree offered for off-campus students through the University telecampus program. The MEngr degree is designed and intended for professional who are working full-time as practicing engineers. Courses taught on campus and courses delivered via distance-learning methods (such as online delivery) can both be applied towards the requirements of the degree. International students, and students intending to pursue a graduate degree full-time, choose the MS in Electrical Engineering.
Students may direct their programs toward the fields of communication systems and networks, digital signal processing, intelligent systems, photonics and applied electromagnetics, electronics, or power and energy systems.
Detailed information on program requirements and application procedures is available at the Electrical and Computer Engineering website, www.clemson.edu/cecas/ece/academics/grad/index.html.
Summary of Degree Requirements
The MEngr degree requires a minimum of 30 credit hours consisting of 24 credit hours of letter-graded graduate-level coursework where at least 12 credit hours must be ECE courses and 12 credit hours must be at the 8000-level. No credit for ECE 8910 or MATH 6000 can be applied towards the degree requirements. The student must also complete six hours of ECE 7010 and submit an Engineering Report in lieu of a conventional master’s thesis. The engineering report is fundamentally the same as a thesis but is required to conform to College formatting standards as opposed to University thesis standards. Students interested in applying for the MEngr degree in electrical engineering should factor this information into their plans for their program of study.
MEngr students select a major advisor, who, in consultation with the student, chooses additional advisory committee members. The student’s advisory committee must include at least three Clemson University faculty members. A majority (more than 50%) of the committee members must be ECE faculty.
