Nursing Bachelor of Science Program Overview
The Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing prepares students for professional nursing practice in a variety of settings, such as hospitals, industry, clinics, and public health agencies. Clinical nursing experiences, guided by the Nursing faculty, include inpatient, outpatient, and community-based settings.
The Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing from Clemson University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, 655 K Street, NW, Suite 750, Washington, DC 20001, 202-887-6791.
To comply with clinical agency contract requirements and South Carolina law, all students enrolled in nursing courses must meet specific requirements listed in the School of Nursing Student Handbook. There are a number of tracks a student may take to earn the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing. Detailed information about each of these tracks is available in separate program entries in this catalog:
- BS-Traditional Track students complete the program in four years (eight semesters).
- BS-Accelerated Track students complete the program in three and a half years (eight semesters).
- Students accepted via the First Year Change of Major Track join the BS-Accelerated Track.
- Upper-class change of major students from within Clemson and transfer students from other institutions complete the program with five semesters of nursing classes and a fall graduation.
- Accelerated Second Degree Track students are those students who have previously earned a bachelor’s degree in another discipline.
- The RNBS Completion Track is for registered nurses who have previously completed an associate’s degree in nursing.
Program Description
The Accelerated Second Degree Nursing track is designed for students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university. New student cohorts are comprised of up to 32 students and begin each fall semester. The 16-month track consists of four, full-time consecutive semesters (fall, spring, summer, and fall) and leads to a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nursing.
Entrance Requirements
The application for admission is open from August 1 through September 15 for enrollment in the following fall. Because admitted students will have earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally or nationally accredited college or university, components of the Clemson General Education requirements are waived. (See the Academic Regulations section of the catalog.) Ideal candidates are those who have completed the appropriate science and math courses required for the nursing curriculum. Additionally, students must have earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. Prerequisite Requirements
Students must have completed all prerequisite coursework prior to the start of classes for the Accelerated Second Degree Nursing BS track. However, application to the program may be made while prerequisite coursework is still being completed.

1 An alternative two-credit course may be substituted. A course substitution form must be submitted.
2 If this requirement is satisfied by another course in the curriculum, elective credits must be taken to fulfill the total program requirement.
3 Students must take NURS 3300 the summer prior to beginning the program or substitute an alternative research methods course. A course substitution form must be submitted if any course other than NURS 3300 is taken.

NOTES:
- A minimum grade of a C is required in the following courses to begin the program: BIOL 1030 , BIOL 1050 , BIOL 2220 , BIOL 2230 , CH 1010 , MICR 2050 or MICR 3050 , NUTR 2030 or NUTR 2050 , MATH 1010 (if required), and STAT 2300 .
- Students may repeat one nursing course only. Withdrawing with a W from the course or applying Academic Forgiveness counts as an attempt. Students who fail a second nursing course are not eligible to continue in the Nursing program. A student who receives concurrent grades of D in NURS 3040 and NURS 3400 may be eligible to retake both courses concurrently with prior approval from the School of Nursing.

A transfer course may not be used to satisfy the General Education Global Challenges Requirement. While a transfer course may fulfill other degree requirements, students must enroll in a Clemson course(s) on the Global Challenges list to fulfill the Global Challenges Requirement.
