Program Description

The field of transportation is experiencing intensifying levels of disruptive technology adoption (e.g., Uber, Lift, CAVs, Birds, Limes, etc.) While this can have significant effects on efficiency, access, and emissions, there can be numerous shortcomings that result in environmental justice issues and safety issues, among others. There are numerous programs across the country which offer an MSCE degree with emphasis in transportation engineering, but few to none have a focus on the futures of transportation.

The Futures of Transportation Engineering certificate program, offered through the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering, comprises a series of four, three-credit courses that support the ever changing field of transportation and is adaptive to disruptive technologies. These courses provide the fundamentals of transportation engineering from different perspectives - planning, design, operations and management, and analysis and decision-making - that form a continuous cycle for improving transportation systems.
