Program Description
The School of Nursing offers two options for completing the DNP. The first is a hybrid post-baccalaureate Doctor of Nursing Practice program with Concentrations as a Family, Adult/Gerontology or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and a track in Health Systems Leadership. The second is an online post-masters Doctor of Nursing Practice track, which is open to all nurses with a masters degree.
The following are available specialty tracks in the post-baccalaureate program:
- Family Nurse Practitioner - Primary Care
- Adult/Gerontology Nurse Practitioner - Primary Care
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Primary Care
- Health System Leadership

Summary of Degree Requirements
The post-masters DNP is a 35-credit hour program. All coursework is provided in an online format. Students spend up to one to two days a year during the summer in on-campus immersion experiences for a program orientation and translational research symposia (a maximum of three summer immersions is anticipated). Students complete didactic coursework in a part-time program (minimum of six semesters). Graduation is based upon successful completion of all coursework and a DNP Project. DNP graduates must complete a total of 1000 hours, including precepted practicum hours earned in the MS Nursing Program.
The post-baccalaureate DNP is a full-time, 74-credit hour program. All coursework is provided in a hybrid format (some on campus, some virtual, plus clinical rotations). Students complete didactic coursework focused on evidence-based practice, leadership, healthcare policy and advocacy, inter-professional collaboration, and expert clinically advanced nursing practice over at least nine semesters. Graduation is based upon successful completion of all coursework and a DNP project. DNP graduates must complete a total of 1000 clinical hours.
