Program Description

Chemistry is a scientific discipline that pertains to the fundamental and applied properties of matter based on observation guided by molecular theory. The discipline is important in much of modern science, medicine, and technology. Due to the fundamental nature and extensive applications of the science, a large variety of meaningful opportunities to positively impact the world are available to students completing an undergraduate degree in Chemistry.

The Chemistry BS curriculum immerses students in a breadth and depth of topics that form the basis of the theory, observation, and manipulation of matter. The BS track exposes students to chemistry and allied sciences with a special emphasis on experimental laboratory training and research in the chemical sciences. The BS curriculum in Chemistry prepares graduates to directly enter careers in chemistry including laboratory, production, technical sales, or management positions. The BS curriculum also provides excellent preparation for graduate school in chemistry (e.g., MS or PhD studies), professional careers (e.g., medical, dental, or pharmacy school), or entry to other fields benefiting from extensive preparation in the sciences (e.g., patent law and technical writing). The curriculum is supported by extensive student participation in experimental work including research investigation opportunities during the junior and senior years.
