Music Minor

Minor Description

(17 credits minimum)

A minor in Music requires the following:

• MUSC 1510 , MUSC 1520 , MUSC 2510  and MUSC 2520  
• MUSC 4150  or MUSC 4160  
• Four semesters of ensemble, totaling four credits, selected from MUSC 3230 , MUSC 3610 , MUSC 3620 , MUSC 3630 , MUSC 3640 , MUSC 3690 , MUSC 3700 , MUSC 3710  and MUSC 3720  ¹ 
• One three-credit MUSC course at the 3000 or 4000 level
• One three-credit music theory course selected from MUSC 1410 , MUSC 1420 , MUSC 1440 , or MUSC 2420  based on the placement exam.

¹ Keyboard students may substitute secondary keyboard courses (MUSC 1510 , MUSC 1520 , MUSC 2510 , MUSC 2520 , MUSC 3510 , MUSC 3520 , MUSC 4510 , MUSC 4520 ) or piano accompanying (MUSC 3230 ) for large ensemble courses. 

NOTES:

• All four semesters of applied music and large ensemble must be on the student’s primary instrument.
• MUSC 1420 , MUSC 1440 , and MUSC 2420  must be taken with their corequisite one-credit aural skills labs (MUSC 1430 , MUSC 1450 , and MUSC 2430  respectively).
• Due to the private lesson requirement, students who have fewer than four semesters remaining before graduation will not be admitted to the Music minor.
• This major is not open to Performing Arts majors whose concentration area is Music.
