Program Description
The MEng in Biomedical Engineering (BME) degree program provides an in-depth advanced engineering education to students who have completed a bachelor of science degree in engineering or science and desire to embrace an industrial career in the field of medical technology. It provides an intellectually rigorous professional graduate education that emphasizes clinical applications and biomedical engineering design to better train a workforce to sustain a growing biomedical industry in South Carolina and the United States. This program is based on core biomedical engineering and relevant clinical applications, providing the basis for strong technical contributions in industry. This program prepares engineering graduates for professional practice in BME and leadership roles in the biomedical science and technology private sector to help develop and sustain economic growth.
The MEng curriculum provides skills and expertise that enhance the individual’s ability to contribute to the technical workforce. The degree will provide professionals in the technical workforce an opportunity to continue their education and development in the context of an advanced degree. The MEng also serves the practicing engineer to further his/her career in the context of an application of engineering knowledge, as opposed to a master’s of science in a research context, which is focused on discovering new knowledge.

Combined Bachelors/Graduate Programs
The Department of Bioengineering offers a combined BS/Graduate plan. Under the plan, Clemson students may reduce the time necessary to earn both a BS degree in Bioengineering or Biological Sciences and a graduate degree in Bioengineering/Biomedical Engineering by applying graduate credits to both undergraduate and graduate program requirements.
Students are encouraged to obtain the specific requirements for the dual degree from the undergraduate department or the Department of Bioengineering as early as possible in their undergraduate programs to ensure that all prerequisite and other program requirements are met. Summary of Degree Requirements
The Master of Engineering (MEng) in Biomedical Engineering program is a 30 graduate credit, non-thesis graduate program designed to prepare students for careers in industry. This program can be completed within 12 months. The Clemson bioengineering department offers this degree program across three campus locations: Clemson, SC, Greenville, SC, and Charleston, SC. The curriculum is made up of five core courses and graduate-level elective courses that help the student in their graduate studies and professional career. At least one-half of the total graduate credit hours required by the advisory committee, exclusive of thesis research, must be selected from courses numbered 8000 or above.
