Program Description
Applied behavior analysis is a well-developed discipline focused on helping individuals using foundational principles of learning and behavior. Professionals in the field of applied behavior analysis use assessment of environmental factors to analyze behavioral needs and develop interventions to support successful participation in a variety of diverse settings. Assessment methods include direct observations, rating scales, record/medical reviews, interviews, and preferences assessments. Intervention techniques include direct instruction of behavioral and social skills, modify antecedent conditions to occasion desired behavior, and provide adjustments to environmental contingencies to increase, maintain, diminish or extinguish behaviors.
Applied behavior analysis has been used to improve the lives of individuals with and without disabilities, including individuals with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and traumatic brain injury. Applied behavior analysis therapy is an evidence-based practice for improving outcomes for these individuals and is therefore a highly sought after service by doctors, parents and educators. Trained professionals with the skill sets to provide these services are in demand.
The Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) has verified the following courses toward the coursework requirements (21 credit hours) for eligibility to take the Board Certified Behavior Analyst® or Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst® examination. Applicants must meet additional requirements before they can be deemed eligible to take the examination.
