Program Description
The Architecture, Society and the City graduate certificate focuses on the ideas, histories, and theories behind buildings. It emphasizes the effects of cultural and social changes in the design of built environments. The certificate prepares students to navigate and develop agency in a world that is rapidly changing socially and physically in terms of demographics and social structures, as well as changing patterns of urbanization and growth. The certificate examines these changes, including current spatial practices across different scales, from buildings to cities to landscapes, in diverse historical, social, and cultural contexts.
