3 Credits (3 Contact Hours)Global survey of the earliest complex societies, focusing on the origins of “pristine states” from the perspective of anthropological archaeology. Following a brief overview of archaeological methods and approaches, students learn about the origins of complex societies of Mesopotamia, the Indus Valley, Egypt, China, Mesoamerica, and the Andes.
