Program Description

The courses of the English major help students acquire an understanding of literature as a humanistic study; develop an appreciation and practical knowledge of the modes of literary expression, research, and criticism; and improve the ability to communicate effectively and intelligently.

The major offers all students an extensive exploration of American, British, and world literatures, writing and publication studies, literary theory, and related disciplines, including creative writing and film. By teaching students to read closely, think critically, and communicate effectively, the English major prepares students for work in a variety of professional and academic fields.

Double Major in English/Secondary Education-English

The Bachelor of Arts Degree in English and Secondary Education - English  prepares students for teaching at the secondary school level and for graduate studies in English.

Note: To receive a double major in English and Secondary Education - English , the student must complete a Request to Change Academic Program form to declare both majors.
