Program Description
The Athletic Leadership Certificate affords students the opportunity to establish a foundation of knowledge in the areas of leadership and ethical decision making. In addition, students select two profession-specific courses. The program meets the needs of students who are also working professionals, as all courses are offered in an online format and are designed around the time constraints and responsibilities of the intercollegiate coaching community.
The Athletic Leadership certificate is designed to prepare coaches and administrators to build a philosophical foundation of leadership by equipping them with knowledge related to:
- Leadership Theories
- Student Athlete Development
- Ethical Decision Making
- Professional Development
- Diversity and Inclusion Development
Summary of Certificate Requirements
The Athletic Leadership Certificate requires the completion of the four graduate-level courses. All courses are three credits and are taught asynchronously online. AL 8490 and AL 8640 are required of all students. In consultation with the graduate program coordinator, students select two additional courses.
